New Catering Contractor

Chartwells

The Blyth Academy as part of the Northern Education Trust have been working with a new catering contractor since December 2016 and are pleased to announce that as of Monday 20th February 2017 a new menu will be available to our students.

Chartwells is the leading provider of contract catering and support services to the education sector in the UK and as part of a full Northern Education Trust approach The Blyth Academy are one of the first within the Trust to benefit from their input and operational management.

Throughout the process The Blyth Academy have been allocated a lead chef who will be working collaboratively with the existing Bistro team by ensuring that the food available to our pupils assists the outcomes of the government's Every Child Matters initiative. This aim is to give all children the support they need to be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and continue developing throughout their school years. The quality of the food provided ensures students have a broad range of foods and meals which changes on a regular basis.

The new partnership working has already seen some developments to the academies dining area where a revitalized service area has been installed. With further plans to develop a designated 6th Form dining area in the very near future the academy students and staff will be able to experience a feel of a "high street" restaurant in the place where they work and learn.

Chartwells recently took part in a parents evening enabling them to showcase a range of their products. The feedback received from our students, parents / carers and staff alike was extremely positive and with a collaborative working approach the academy leadership team is looking forward to remaining fully involved with Chartwells to ensure an improved experience is available for all.

Please see enclosed a sample of the new menus and price lists available to our pupils. As part of the process Chartwells will seek feedback from staff and students in order to ensure the service they provide is of the best quality. In addition to the new menus the academy will also be benefiting from an upgraded payment system which will allow our students to use notes as well as coins when paying for their meals. The date for this payment system will be shared with parents and carers once confirmed.
